JEOPARDY! has clarified the show's rules for sitting down after contestant Amy Schneider used a chair during the Masters semifinals.
One Jeopardy! viewer recently questioned why contestant Grant DeYoung was sitting down while competing for his fourth win on Monday.
Grantwas seen in a swivel chair with armrests and full back support, which was also adjusted to be the same height as his standing opponents.
"Do we know why Grant is sitting? I think we had one contestant who was very tall. Is that the case with Grant as well?" one person tweeted.
The official Jeopardy! X account replied, "The option to sit is available to all of our players!"
Similarly, producer Sarah Whitcomb Foss addressed the situation after fans had questioned the rare act of seeing a contestant sit down.

“Fans have been noticing that Grant is sitting in a chair during his games," she explained, adding, "This is something that we always offer to contestants."
"We don’t ask why; it’s not our business," she continued. “If you want a chair, we’ll give it to you."
GRANT'S DECISION
Sarah went on to read a statement from Grant about having back arthritis, which makes it difficult for him to stand for lengthy periods.
"So there you have it!” the producer said.

Grant had previously explained on Reddit that he "didn't mind" disclosing his reason for needing a chair while competing.
After one critic asked Grant how he was able to sustain his job at the grocery store, Grant joked that Jeopardy! hadn't figured out how to have contestants in continuous motion.
He also joked about his height after one person questioned if his 6'4" physique was the reason why he chose to sit down.
"Indirectly, you're not wrong, I'm too tall for my own good!" he wrote back on Reddit.

After Amy's time in the Jeopardy! Masters tournament came to an end on Monday night, she opened up about her final game.
With Mattea, Matt, and now Amy cut from the competition, the finals on Wednesday will include contestants James, Victoria, and Yogesh.

After Monday's airing, viewers immediately took to X, formerly Twitter, to question why Amy had been sitting in a chair while competing.
“I have watched #Jeopardy my whole life and today is the first time I saw a chair,” one fan wrote. “I thought they were always standing.”
“I only noticed because Amy was moving around in it,” the user added.
Shortly after, Amy, 44, shared her own thoughts about the end of her Masters run.

She addressed why she was seen sitting down for the episode, saying the game show had a chair for her because she had experienced some dizziness.
"It's a fact that I wasn't feeling well on the day we taped the semifinals; they had a chair out for me because I was experiencing some dizziness and wasn't sure I could stand for a whole episode," she revealed in an X thread.

Amy thought her indisposition impacted her performance, and said that by not being at her peak, she didn't stand a chance against her competitors.
