The cast of 'The Craft': See the iconic teen witches, then and now (2024)

If it's possible to call a movie about witchcraft "relatable," the 1996 cult hit The Craft fits that description. The film's quartet of teenage spellcasters tap into some potent magic, but they don't use it to take over the world — or even their school. They just want to get back at the people who've wronged them: an abusive stepfather, a racist classmate, a trash-talking jock.

The street-level stakes mean they don't run up against anybody more powerful than they are. Sarah (Robin Tunney), Nancy (Fairuza Balk), Bonnie (Neve Campbell), and Rochelle (Rachel True) quietly practice their mischief until, inexorably, they turn on each other.

Read on to learn what the cast of The Craft has been up to since closing the spell book nearly 30 years ago.

Robin Tunney (Sarah Bailey)

Robin Tunney played Sarah, the new girl in school who falls in with a coven of wannabe witches.

Tunney was fresh off her troubled, rebellious turn in Empire Records (1995), so taking up the dark arts in The Craft was the logical next step. Not long afterward, she was cast in the biblical Arnold Schwarzenegger horror film End of Days (1999) as no less than the chosen mother of Satan's child. Her genre forays continued with the outer-space horror flick Supernova (2000) and the survival thriller Vertical Limit (2000) before she carved out a niche on the indie circuit, including Alan Rudolph’s acclaimed The Secret Lives of Dentists (2002).

The actress played famed socialite Leonore Lemmon, ex-fiancee of the tragic George Reeves (Ben Affleck), in Hollywoodland (2006), and found a home on the small screen around that time, too. She was a key player in season 1 of Prison Break (2005–2006) and then landed the role of Teresa Lisbon on The Mentalist (2008–2015). Recently, she was seen in the Apple TV+ drama Dear Edward (2023).

Tunney was married to filmmaker Bob Gosse from 1997 to 2006. She's been engaged to Nicky Marmet, with whom she shares two children, since 2012.

Fairuza Balk (Nancy Downs)

Fairuza Balk was Nancy, a bitter young woman with an abusive family whose desire for supernatural power turns against her.

Balk herself has been dogged by rumors that she believes in the occult — or even practices witchcraft. "That has taken on its entire own mythology that's essentially out of my hands,” she told EW in 2017. “You can tell the truth and talk to people but they want to believe what they want to believe. What can you do?"

She rose to child stardom after stepping into Dorothy Gale’s ruby slippers in the cult classic Return to Oz (1985), then became an arthouse favorite before The Craft vaulted her back into the mainstream. Thankfully, her role as Nancy overshadowed her appearance in the notorious flop The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996). The actress played Edward Norton's skinhead girlfriend in American History X (1998), Adam Sandler's love interest in The Waterboy (1998), and a groupie alongside Kate Hudson in the Oscar-winning film Almost Famous (2000).

In addition to her television work — which includes a season 3 arc on Ray Donovan (2015) and a key supporting role in Amazon’s musical drama Paradise City (2021) — Balk has continued to appear in movies. She played a cop opposite Nicolas Cage in Werner Herzog’s bonkers quasi-remake, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009), and was recently the only original Craft cast member to cameo in the sequel, The Craft: Legacy (2020).

Rachel True (Rochelle Zimmerman)

Rachel True starred as Rochelle, who gets targeted for racial harassment at school and takes revenge on her tormentors.

While she was already an established face on TV, The Craft was True’s big-screen break, which she followed two years later with another cult fave, Half Baked (1998), as the love interest named (you guessed it) Mary Jane.

While booking consistent work in smaller films, True has maintained a regular presence on the small screen, appearing on everything from The Drew Carey Show (1997–1998) to Once and Again (1999–2000). She carried the lead role in UPN’s sitcom Half & Half (2002–2006) and recently appeared on Amazon’s Harlem (2023).

In 2019, True spoke out about the “casual racism” of the various conventions that have invited the three white members of the film’s central quartet while leaving her out.

Neve Campbell (Bonnie Harper)

Neve Campbell played Bonnie, who wishes away the burn scars on her arms and back before joining with Nancy to turn on Sarah.

Campbell became well-known for playing middle child Julia Salinger in Party of Five (1994–2000) and found a signature big-screen role in Wes Craven's meta-slasher Scream (1996). Her leading lady status evolved with the erotic neo-noir Wild Things (1998), the disco-era 54 (1998), and Robert Altman’s ballet drama The Company (2003).

Over the last two decades, the actress has balanced the movie stardom of her Scream franchise with character work across film and television. She was Claire Underwood’s personal political strategist for two seasons of House of Cards (2016–2017) in addition to guest roles on Grey’s Anatomy (2012) and Mad Men (2014). Campbell currently stars in Netflix's legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer (2022–present).

She appeared alongside Dwayne Johnson in the summer blockbuster Skyscraper (2018) and, after skipping the sixth Scream installment due to a salary dispute, is on board for the seventh, set for 2026.

Campbell has been married twice: to Jeff Colt from 1995 to 1998 and to actor John Light from 2007 to 2011. Her current partner is actor JJ Feild. They have two sons together, Caspian and Raynor.

Skeet Ulrich (Chris Hooker)

Skeet Ulrich played Chris, the school bully who falls completely under Sarah's spell.

Like costar Neve Campbell, Ulrich was a key figure in the original Scream; Billy Loomis is probably his most popular character to this day. His run as a big-screen up-and-comer continued with a small role in the Oscar-winning Jack Nicholson/Helen Hunt rom-com As Good as It Gets (1997) and as one of the four fraternal leads in The Newton Boys (1998), with Matthew McConaughey, Ethan Hawke, and Vincent D’Onofrio.

His most prominent roles in recent years, however, have been on the small screen. He headlined the post-apocalyptic drama Jericho (2006–2008), which gained a devoted fan base during its brief run. The actor later joined the CW’s reimagined Archie soap, Riverdale (2017–2021), as Jughead’s father. Most recently, he booked a regular cast role on the Giancarlo Esposito-led crime drama Parish (2024–present).

Ulrich married actress Georgina Cates in 1997. They had twins, son Jakob and daughter Naiia, before splitting up in 2005. Ulrich's second marriage to actress Amelia Jackson-Gray lasted from 2012 to 2015.

Christine Taylor (Laura Lizzie)

The cast of 'The Craft': See the iconic teen witches, then and now (6)

Christine Taylor had an early career heel turn as Laura, a racist high school student who gets punished for harassing Rochelle.

After landing her big break on Nickelodeon’s Hey Dude (1989–1991), Taylor brought a classic sitcom character to the silver screen as Marcia in The Brady Bunch Movie (1995) parody and its sequel. She’s been a regular in comedy ever since, appearing in many of her husband Ben Stiller’s films — including Zoolander (2001), Dodgeball (2004), and Tropic Thunder (2008) — as well as Adam Sandler’s rom-com The Wedding Singer (1998).

On television, the actress had key recurring roles in Arrested Development (2005–2019) and Search Party (2016–2022)

Taylor and Stiller married in 2000 and share a daughter, Ella, and a son, Quinlin. The couple separated in 2017 but reconciled during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.

Breckin Meyer (Mitt)

The cast of 'The Craft': See the iconic teen witches, then and now (7)

Breckin Meyer played Mitt, one of Chris' wisecracking buddies.

After staking out a place in a venerable franchise in Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991), Meyer endeared himself to rom-com audiences in Clueless (1995) as skateboarding burnout, Travis. He later turned up in starry ensembles in Go (1999) and Rat Race (2001) and achieved leading man status in the college sex comedy Road Trip (2000) and the animated/live-action hybrid, Garfield: The Movie (2004).

The actor has found several homes on the small screen, from his voice work on King of the Hill as Joseph Gribble (2000–2010) to the lighthearted legal procedural (2011–2014) alongside Mark-Paul Gosselaar. He also has five Emmy nominations for his work on Adult Swim’s stop-motion franchise Robot Chicken.

Meyer was married to writer-director Deborah Kaplan from 2001 to 2014. They share two daughters, Caitlin and Clover.
