DoorDash partners with Stripe to file 1099 tax forms that summarize your earnings or sales activities. We’ve put together some FAQs to help you learn more about 1099s, and how to use Stripe Express to review your tax information and download your tax forms.

If you have already created a Stripe Express account, you can log in to manage your tax information at connect.stripe.com/app/express.

What is a 1099 tax form?

A 1099-NEC form summarizes Dashers' earnings as independent contractors in the US. It’s provided to you and the IRS, as well as some US states, if you earn $600 or more in 2024. If you're a Dasher, you’ll need this form to file your taxes.

A 1099-K form summarizes your sales activity as a Merchant. It’s provided to you and the IRS, as well as some US states, if you have had $5,000 USD in total gross volume in 2024. If you’re a Merchant, you’ll need this form to file your taxes.

What is Stripe Express, and how do I access it?

Stripe Express allows you to update your tax information, download your tax forms, and track your earnings. If you're a Dasher and earned $600 or more in the calendar year through DoorDash in the US, Stripe will send an email (titled “Get your DoorDash 2024 tax forms faster by enabling e-delivery”) inviting you to create an account and log in to Stripe Express.

If you’re a Merchant that previously opted into paperless delivery via Stripe Express you’ll receive an E-delivery email when your 1099 tax form has been filed by DoorDash. You should expect to sent an E-delivery notification for your the calendar year 1099-K if you meet the following criteria in the calendar year:

  • You have had $5,000 USD in total gross volume in 2024
  • You own a limited number of restaurants
  • You are based in the US or are a US taxpayer
  • You already have access to Stripe Express and have opted into paperless delivery

If you are unable to find that email, head to our Support Site where you can request a new link to be sent to your email.

If you still are not able to locate your invite email, please reach out to DoorDash support for help updating your email address.

I no longer have access to the phone number I signed up with. How do I login to my Stripe Express account?

If you’ve lost or updated your phone number, you can select the “I no longer have access to this phone number” option to authenticate via email and change your phone number.

I earned enough to need a 1099 form in 2024. Why haven’t I received an email from Stripe?

If you're a Dasher and you've earned enough to need a 1099 form in 2024, you should have received an email from Stripe by mid January 2025. Emails will be sent out in phases to Dashers starting in October 2024.

If you can’t find an email from Stripe, it’s possible that:

  • The email may be in your spam/junk mail folder. Please search your inbox for an email titled “Get your DoorDash 2024 tax forms faster by enabling e-delivery”.
  • DoorDash does not have your most current email address on file. Please check any other email addresses you may have used to sign up for DoorDash, or reach out to DoorDash to update your email.
  • The email address associated with your DoorDash account is incorrect, missing, or unable to receive mail.
  • DoorDash has chosen to postal deliver forms to you. If you have not received an email from Stripe or a 1099 in the mail, please reach out to DoorDash to get a copy of your tax forms.

Please note that if you earned enough to need a 1099 form in 2024 and do not receive an email from Stripe by mid January, you will be mailed a paper copy of your 1099 tax form. DoorDash Merchants that were not emailed earlier in the year will be mailed a copy of your 1099 tax form to the mailing address on file.

When will I receive my 1099 tax form?

If you’ve agreed to e-delivery you should receive your 1099 tax form by January 31, 2025 (plus up to 10 business days for mail delivery of a paper form).

Here are a few important dates to keep in mind:

  • Starting in October: Stripe will email you instructions on how to set up a Stripe Express account. You’ll need to create an account and agree to paperless delivery (i.e., agree to receive your 1099 tax form electronically via Stripe Express). You will need an account to download your 1099 tax form.
  • Before mid January: Confirm your tax information (e.g., name, address, and SSN or EIN) is correct via Stripe Express.
  • By January 31, 2025:
    • Your 1099 tax form will be available to download via Stripe Express if you agreed to paperless delivery.
    • Your 1099 tax form will be mailed to you, if you don’t receive an email from Stripe or don’t agree to paperless delivery. Please allow up to 10 business days for mail delivery.
    • DoorDash will file your 1099 tax form with the IRS and relevant state tax authorities.
    • April 15, 2025: IRS deadline to file individual tax returns. You’ll need your 1099 tax form to file your taxes.

How do I update my tax information?

Open the email from Stripe and click on the “Get started” button, which will prompt you to create a Stripe Express account. After you create an account, you’ll be able to review your tax information (e.g., name, address, and SSN or EIN) and make any necessary changes via Stripe Express. Please update your information no later than mid January 2025.

Please note: If you don’t agree to paperless delivery by mid January 2025, we’ll automatically mail your 1099 tax form to the address on file, so it’s critical that your information is current, correct, and complete.

You may find that your 1099 tax form reports your SSN and you want to use your EIN (or vice-versa). If that’s the case, you’ll want to reach out to DoorDash to update your legal entity information.

  • Please note: If you’re operating as an individual, Sole Proprietorship, or Single Member LLC, the IRS will expect to see the individual owner’s Name and SSN (as opposed to Business Name and EIN) reported on your 1099 tax form.

When answering the account claim security questions, it states that my answers are incorrect, what should I do?

Please reach out to DoorDash support to confirm the information that they have on file against the information you are providing.

Why is Stripe requesting my Social Security number (SSN), Employer Identification Number (EIN), or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)?

Your SSN, EIN, or ITIN is required to file your 1099 tax form with the IRS and relevant state tax authorities.

How can I download my 1099 tax form?

If you create a Stripe Express account and agree to paperless delivery, Stripe will email you to let you know when your 1099 tax form is available for download via Stripe Express. If you don’t agree to paperless delivery, Stripe will mail you a paper copy of your 1099 tax form instead.

How do I get a corrected 1099 tax form?

If you feel you need corrections made to a 1099 tax form that has already been ‘Filed’, use the edit option in the Tax Forms page of Stripe Express. Information you edit will not appear in the 1099 tax form in the Stripe Express dashboard but it is shared with DoorDash. You should reach out to DoorDash after you’ve made the edits you want and they can assist you with a correction. Once DoorDash ‘Files’ your correction, you will be notified via email and you will see a new 1099 tax form appear in the Stripe Express dashboard.

Please note that it can take up to 72 hours after the platform files the correction for you to be notified.
